What's new at Hai Shin Lou? That's the Chinese restaurant of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel which gathers the media for an update on Wednesday May 22. It is a lure as well as an enticement.

In past weeks we have attended several lunches at the Hai Shin Lou, three of them organized by airlines. There was Cebu Pacific with its announcement of flights to Shanghai.

Then it was Cathay Pacific gathering the press to meet its country manager Rob Bradshaw, very well organized by Hazel Taguimacruz and Jessica Fernandez who are with the CX staff at the 12th floor of the FGU building in Cebu Business Park. They have Ayala Center right across.

Philippine Airlines (PAL) had a media fellowship to do at the Hai Shin Lou for no particular reason save to be in touch, and exchange pleasantries.

Josen Perez de Tagle, PAL's vice president for corporate communications, came to Cebu along with top brass Cielo Villaluna, Paeng Ecangelista who had done the texting to invite, and Pinky Mag-iba.

From the Cebu end were Harry Inoferio and Reyani Romano who are at the main office in the QC Pavilion, along with Marijo Araneta who is in charge of communications and from whom we expect photos of the lunch.

More: Emelie Parawan who heads the PAL airport office, and Mae Ong who heads the Osmeña Boulevard branch.

I was seated beside Kri-Kri Kekert who came with her sister Maite Garcia.

PAL's goal is to have a fleet of 100 planes flying all over the world. It does make a profit, and the reason for its success is that PAL is very well run. This we can discern from meeting their communications personnel. It used to be called public relations. It still amounts to that.

The Arts and Council board of trustees had a meeting over lunch at the Ginza Japanese restaurant last May 10. Given the personalities involved it was a glamorous occasion. A fashion annotator would have enjoyed the gathering.

As they arrived: Rose Hennessy, secretary Mariter Klepp, VP Petite Garcia, president Vivina Yrastorza, Elena Young, treasurer Elvira Luym, Honey Loop, VP Maia Franco, Maxwell Espina and Angelina Escaño.

Among the many items discussed in the agenda was the Arts Council's participation in the celebration of Philippine-Australian friendship.

That will be on Friday May 24 form 6:30 to 8:30PM at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

Alliance Francaise de Cebu held a meeting at La Maison Rose to elect this year's officers. Michel Lhuillier is president with Louise Thevenin as Vice President; Atty. Manuel Lumapas, corporate secretary; Mayen Tan, treasurer; and Honey Loop, director.

Also present were Amparito Lhuillier, Nestor Alonso, Vivina Yrastorza, Elodie Eoyer, Isabel Abello, Michel Guinafolen, and Kate Hale.

Chef Richard Amado was congratulated for the fine plated menu he prepared. Louis T chose the fine wines poured throughout the dinner.
