The week is replete with activity. It is Zelia Borromeo’s birthday on November 28, an occasion for a grand family gathering at the ballroom of Montebello Villa Hotel, a beloved location for Zelia since Day one in 1972. Lots of memories there.

Raquel Choa, Cebu’s Chocolate Queen, at the instance of Aissa de la Cruz, is gathering the august Lifestyle writers for what Aissa calls a merienda-cena on November 27 at The Chocolate Chamber in Robinson’s Galleria, at 3PM.

Casino Español de Cebu and the Arts Council are presenting an evening of Flamenco music and dancing titled Vientos de Granada on Friday November 29 in the evening. The male dancers come from Granada, Spain, while the “señoritas” come from Centro Flamenco in Manila.

Actively involved is Honey Loop who says it will be at the Salon de España ballroom of the Casino Español with refreshments and pica-pica before the start of the show.

Next day, November 30, there is another activity at Casino Español de Cebu, as at 6:45 PM is the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, complete with an emotive program.

“Tapas and Wines All Night” was the recent fellowship event of La Chaine des Rotisseurs Cebu chapter, held at Erye, the Spanish restaurant of the Crimson Resort & Spa in Mactan last October 16.

To prepare those Tapas as they do in San Sebastian, Spain, chef Chele Gonzalez flew to Cebu from Manila, with superlative results.

There were not enough chairs to accommodate the 120 who had signed up for the celebration, but it did not matter as those present stood drifting from one fabulous station to another.

Crimson general manager Didier Belmonte was the personification of joy seeing the success of the evening. “We still have 200 bottles of wine in reserve,” he told Michel Lhuillier at the end of the evening.

Michel, who is La Chaine’s Baili Delege for the Philippines, was enthusiastic to the nth. degree seeing and sampling, the spread that seemed endless. After the awarding of certificates he led the guests in dancing for the rest of the night.

This was one more occasion for Michel to state that every Chaine event gets better and better than the previous. That may well also be for the next event: the anniversary gala set for December 14 at the JPark Island Resort and Waterpark in Mactan.

There was an evening last week when Michel and Amparito Lhuillier (she is the Baili de Cebu) along with Teresin Mendezona, Dr. Nestor Alonso and this writer took that 2-hour drive to JPark for a food tasting.

Welcoming us and explaining one exquisite course after another were the resort’s general manager Jonathan Nowell, and F&B head Christopher Shim.

La Chaine’s anniversary galas don’t usually have themes, but this time it will be Christmas all the way, says Mr. Nowell, at the resort’s ballroom.
