Balletcenter is gearing up for its 70th anniversary in 2020, recalling its founder, Fe Sala Villarica. This calls for a celebration.
Hence, Balletcenter and Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, in cooperation with Ayala Center Cebu, bring back The Little Mermaid, based on the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
The choreography is by Balletcenter’s artistic directors Gregory Aaron and Micolas Pacaña. Performances will be on December 6 and 7 at the Theater for the Performing Arts, Onstage, Cinema 1, of Ayala Center Cebu.
For tickets call Ms. Che Che at telephone 232-2958. You may ask for the time as it is not stated in the press release we received.
Here is further news from Balletcenter:
MR. AARON’S LITTLE MERMAID – VIETNAM PREMIER.
Artistic Director Gregory Aaron’s “Little Mermaid” is set to premier in Vietnam. In partnership with SASA BALLET, Mr. Aaron is taking two of his senior dancers, Khynloyd Genson and Judith Po to dance as Ariel and the prince. This brilliant couple will be supported by a cast of over one hundred adults and children with multiple scenery and property changes. It promises to be the cultural treat of a lifetime for one and all.
When will this be? The press release doesn’t state it either.
Meanwhile, the Arts Council of Cebu, founded by Fe Sala Villarica in 1960, is thick in preparations to celebrate 60 years of artistic existence in 2020. This was discussed at a recent meeting held in Ginza and presided by Vivina Yrastorza.
A follow up meeting was later held at Casino Español de Cebu by former presidents and now vice presidents Maia Franco and Petite Garcia regarding the first of various events to highlight the anniversary.
That will be on February 28 with a revival of The Sleeping Beauty full length ballet at the Ayala Center’s Onstage theater.
Among the Arts Council events in 2020 is a tribute to Fe Sala Villarica designed as a glittering evening worthy of its honoree.
Amigos de España en Cebu will hold its annual Christmas party on Tuesday December 10 at noon at EL Comedor of Casino Español de Cebu.
The occasion is one for “intercambio de regalos” which translates as exchanging of gifts. It is usually full of surprises.
Ambassador Francisco Benedicto is hosting his traditional Christmas luncheon for media friends on Friday December 6 at noon at the Tsai Cheng restaurant at the Cebu Grand Convention Center. Sam Costanilla is coordinating.
Perla Agudo was on the phone bubbling about the centennial of the Bachelors-Feminas Clubs of Cebu, established in 1919. A special day for both clubs was December 28, feast of the Holy Innocents.
That was an occasion when the Rigodon de Honor was danced at a grand ball, first held at Cebu’s Club Filipino and later at Casino Español. There hasn’t been a B-F ball in years, but Perla feels there should be a celebration.
She suggests a get together of former members on December 28 which this year falls on a Saturday. That will be at Casino Español. Those concerned may call Perla at telephone 273-2565.
The New Year’s Eve ball at Casino Español this year will have a 1920s theme to evoke its founding 100 years ago on January 1, 1920.
Guests are requested to come in costumes of the era. There will be a costume parade with valuable prizes for the winners of the best attires.
Throughout 2020 there will be various commemorative events. The Centennial committee will soon meet to discuss plans. Most active in it is Honey Loop. She was congratulated effusively for the success of the recent Flamenco Night featuring the Vientos de Granada male dancers and the pretty ladies from Centro Flamenco de Manila.
Saturday being what they are for us, we missed going to the Christmas Tree lighting event at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.
Lara Scarrow and Manna Alcaraz have sent us a press release about it which we are happy to print verbatim, as it gives you an idea, with photos, of what a fun occasion it was:
The Festive Season is here and Marco Polo Plaza Cebu kicked off the festivities last November 16 with the lighting of its Tree of Hope with this year’s theme, “Christmas around the World.”
The ceremony started with the blessing of the Tree of Hope by Msgr. Jim Gorre, followed by a welcome speech by Marco Polo Plaza’s General Manager Brian Connelly. A medley of different international dances was performed by the students of Cebu Centre for Dance and beautiful renditions of Christmas songs were sung by the Fidelis Choir and GMA Artist Center’s Yasser Marta.
Christmas is truly the season of giving. Through the partnership of Marco Polo Plaza and GMA Kapuso Foundation, a total of Php 1,544,181.57 in donations have already been gathered to help support various projects of GMA Kapuso Foundation such as the Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan Project, Give-A-Gift Project and much more. Vice President and Head of GMA Regional TV Oliver Amoroso thanked the Cebuanos for the constant support as he received the donations gathered from the previous year.
Share the joy of the season by donating to the Tree of Hope for only Php 200 per Christmas ball until January 6, 2020. All proceeds will be given to GMA Kapuso Foundation—one of the most accomplished non-government organizations in the Philippines whose mission is to uplift the lives of underprivileged Filipinos.
